How to Reset Your Password

For your security, the NBOME Learning Center uses a two-step identification process to reset user passwords. This means you will receive two separate emails to reset your password - one email confirming that you wish to reset your password, and a second email containing your username and a temporary password. If you have forgotten your password or believe your password to be compromised, please follow the steps below.

  • Click the “Forgotten You Password?” link on the login page:
  • Enter the email address associated with your account.
  • You will receive an email confirming that you requested to change your password. Click the link in the email to confirm you want to change it.
  • You will be taken a new page confirming that a temporary system-generated password has been sent to you in a second email. This password is a random string of letters and numbers; we highly recommend you change it to something you will remember.  To do that, you must open the second email that was sent to you.
  • Click the link in the second email. This will take you to the page where you can update your password.
  • Enter your system-generated password in the "Current password" field. Enter your new CHOSEN password in the "New password" field, and then confirm it in the last field. When done, click the "Save changes" button. This will update your password.
  • You will be taken to a new page confirming that your password has been changed. Click "Continue" to proceed to your course.

PASSWORD BEST PRACTICES

  • Use a sentence or phrase that means something specifically to you.
  • Use a minimum of 8 characters with at least 1 lowercase letter, 1 uppercase letter, and 1 digit.
  • Avoid personal information like social security numbers or milestones like birthdays and anniversaries as they can be cracked.
  • Avoid keyboard adjacent passwords like “qwerty” and obvious words like “password” or “user”.
  • One of the easiest to remember and hardest to crack password methods is the pseudo-random password. The actual password is generated from an easy to remember phrase that is important to the user. This phrase can be the words from a book that you particularly like, words from a song that you always remember with ease, a statement that some powerful figure made that you will never forget.
  •  The key to a successful password is to create a phrase that is easy for you to remember, but no one else will ever think about attributing it to you.
    • personal phrase: "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought…"
    • password: 4scANse...
    • method: Chose first two letters from each word until a total of eight characters resulted.
    • personal phrase: "It was a dark and stormy night...".
    • password : iWadasn7
    • method: Chose first letter from each word, followed by the age of nephew.
    • personal phrase: My Brother's Birthday Is april(4) Twenty Two Nineteen Sixty three(3)
    • password : Mbbi4tt19s3
    • method: Chose the first letter from most words, and substituted numbers for letters
