Chronic Kidney Disease OPAIM

The NBOME’s Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Osteopathic Performance Assessment and Improvement Module (OPAIM) is an OCC Component 4, AOA-BOS approved web-based, formative learning program created to provide osteopathic physicians with opportunities for continuous performance improvement in the management of patients with stage 4 and 5 CKD.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for diplomates of the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the parameters (symptoms and lab results) of Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Identify complications and associated comorbid conditions of Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Formulate treatment plans for the management of Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Educate patients on treatment approaches to Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Educate patients on complications and prognoses of treatment and non-treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease

Instructions for Participation and Credit

To successfully earn credit, participants must complete the program in its entirety. Follow these steps to earn OCC Component 4 and CME credit:

STAGE A: Assess Performance

Assess current practice using identified performance measures through a Patient Data Review:

  • Select 10-30 patients based on the indicated parameters
  • Enter and submit patient data
  • Receive a performance analysis report comparing your performance with national benchmarks

STAGE B: Build and Implement Action Plan

Select from educational activities and practice improvement tools designed for sustained improvement in patient care:

  • Identify an improvement goal and build an Action Plan using the activities and tools within the OPAIM module
  • Complete the suggested educational activity and apply what you have learned in practice for a recommended 30 days

STAGE C: Reassess Performance

  • Enter data from 10-30 additional patients seen since completion of Stage B
  • Compare your Stage A and Stage C performance results
  • Complete an evaluation on the OPAIM program
  • Receive 20 credits of AOA Category 1-B Credit
